They say that the third time is the charm. Dunno about that, but this is my third long-haul European ride. The first was in 2013; Budapest to London (almost). The second (2015) was Passau to Dieppe, via Vienna, Budapest, Zagreb, Rijeka, Pula, Trieste, Verona, Alessandria,  Acqui Terme, Genoa, Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Marseilles, Carcassonne, Bordeaux,  and many, many more  towns. I got a fair taste for cycle touring. (See ozblokeonabike, and ozblokeonabikeagain)

Why Athens to Santander?

Why not? I can fly into Athens, so that’s a good start – and Santander has haunted me since June Tabour sang about it – plus I can ferry from there to the UK.

This trip is to fill in the bits of Eurovelo 8 that I missed – Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bits of Croatia, Spain and Portugal. I’ll try to skip the French bits I’ve already done – plus Monte Carlo, by using trains and ferries – But, subject to time, I’ll cycle all I can.

I’m 66 this year, and hopefully still have a trip or two in me. In the meantime, enjoy what I’ve written. You can contact me via email at alan_scott@netspeed.com.au, or by leaving comments on this blog.
